In this post, you can learn to diagnose what your body hape, what characterizes it and most importantly - what flattered to your body structure and what to do, Or What Not to Wear.

 

The female body shape is different from one to another. I divided the female body structure to six major categories: Triangle, Inverted-triangle, Hourglass, Apple, Rectangle and Cello.

Triangle

Body shape that characterized by wider lower body parts (thighs and buttocks) than the upper body parts (chest and shoulders), and accentuated waist line.

The key is to create a balance between the upper body and the lower part of the body. The way is by adding volume or attracting attention to the top of the body by color, print, decorations and accessories.

What To Wear

upper part:

  • Shirts with structure and shape, fitted to the waist.

  • A shape dress

  • Shirts relatively short - shirt length above the hips line

  • Printed shirts or colored shirt

  • T-shirts and dresses with sleeves

  • Decorated or puffed sleeves

  • Shirts and dresses decorated at the top

  • You can add a Large necklace or scarves to highlight the upper part

  • T-shirts or halter-neck dresses

  • Shoulder pads (can be hidden)

  • Deep necklines

  • Clothes that emphasize your waist

Bottom:

  • Mild A-line skirts and dresses 

  • Pants in a straight cut - extending the legs

  • High waist pants - collect the buttocks and emphasize the the waist.

What Not To Wear

upper part:

  • Long shirts or tunics that cover the buttocks

  • T-shirts that decorated at the bottom, close to the hips

Bottom:

  • Fitted pencil skirts

  • Skinny pants - will highlight the disproportion

  • Hemlines stopped at the hips

  • Pants or skirts with open pleats 

  • Very high heels shoes

Inverted Triangle

Hourglass

Very sexy and feminine body shape, characterized in equals upper and lower body parts. narrow waist line.

The principle is simple - Look for clothes that fit to your Curves, and emphasize your narrow waist. Adding a waist belt (preferably not very thick), also do the trick.

What To Wear

upper part:

  • ​Deep Necklines - V-neck or scoop neck

  • Fitted and tailored clothing

  • Jackets and long tops fitted to the waist area

  • Verticals prints

  • Blouses and dresses with a clearly defined waist

Bottom:

  • ​Straight pants or gently flared trousers (fitted in the hips)

  • Pencil skirts

  • A-line skirts

  • High waist Pants or skirts

What Not To Wear

upper part:

  • Sack T-shirts or dresses

  • Oversized shape

  • Too closed T-shirts and dresses

  • Clothes Without a defined shape and cut

  • Baby-doll style shirt

  • Empire shape (cut below the chest)

  • T-shirts decorated around the chest area

Bottom:

  • Especially low-cut skirts, it will only enlarge your hips.

  • Extremely low Pants

  • Pants or skirts decorated around the thighs area

  • Short mini skirts

  • Skirts that end on your legs widest area

Rectangle

Straight and boyish body Type , characterized by equal upper and lower body part, and almost no waist at all. 

Narrow shoulders, flat chest, buttocks and hips thin flat.

The key is to create the curves of the body by the clothes, or add sex appeal by wearing a sexy and flattering garment.

What To Wear

upper part:

  • Shirts and dresses that emphasize the waist

  • Shirts and dresses in Wrap shape, emphasizing the feminine curves

  • Blouses and dresses with pleated or cowl neck 

  • Paplom (little skirt cover the waistline and hips )

  • Bold or decorated shoulders

  • Tailored jackets in waist-length , or with a narrow and highlighted waist. 

  • Shoulder pads

  • Thick waist-belts.

Bottom:

  • Pencil skirt, preferably high-waist, emphasizes the natural curves.

  • Full-skirted, you'll buy more feminine look

  • Large back pockets

  • Skinny pants or tigh

What Not To Wear

upper part:

  • Blouses and dresses with low waistline or no waist at all

  • A square cut jackets

  • Closed collar or turtleneck

  • Blouses and dresses with square neckline 

  • T-shirts or tank tops too tight 

  • Verticals prints  - highlight the straight rectangular structure

Bottom:

  • Straight cut Pants or jeans 

  • Straight cut skirts

  • Too baggy pants

  • Short mini skirt, will cut the body and compare you look even more square

  • Look sloppy and neglected

Apple

This body shape general characterized by round shape, especially in the upper body. When the area is more full is in the stomach area. Round-shouldered, flat buttocks, averages to large chest, shapely thin legs.

There are two forms of apple body: oval and diamond, the difference is if your belly area is located lower (it's oval-shaped) or higher (this diamond shape).

The main style guidelines for both apple body shapes are the same. The key is to create a body length and cover the belly area. Adding an interesting texture or prints , or with an interesting cut, ruffles and pleats and also with tailored jackets, will draw attention toward your shoulders and face.

What To Wear

upper part:

  • ​Loose shirts and dresses - away from the body, use fabrics with nice falling

  • Suits - upper and lower part in the same fabric or color

  • Long shirts and tunics

  • Always Pull your shirt slightly upward and let it fall to create a fold in the middle that create a blurring in the belly.

  • Necklaces in cleavage length, will accentuate the area and focus the eyes.

  • Dresses with deep collar neckline

  • Warp Shirts and dresses

  • V neck shirts

  • Shirts and dresses in the empire shape (bold line below the chest)

  • A-line Tailored dresses 

  • Princes-cut tailored jackets - highlight the female figure and create the illusion of a waist curve. Wear the jacket open it creates a even more narrow illusion.

very important!  Women with big chest need to invest in a good supported bra . highlights the narrow waist and the female figure.

Bottom:

  • Straight cut tailored in knee-length

  • Subtle A-line skirt

  • Straight cut trousers or expanding from the hips

What Not To Wear

upper part:

  • Shirts inside the pants

  • Clinging Lycra fabrics 

  • Tight shirts or too small shirt

  • Masculine T-shirts 

  • Bolero

  • Short jacket and square Jacket

  • Large masculine jackets

  • Turtleneck

  • Too small prints 

  • Decorated shirts 

  • Wallen shirts

Bottom:

  • Clumsy cut skirt

  • Too tight skirts

  • Very short pants

  • Skirts or pants with excess fabric

  • Dresses with volume and texture

Cello/Square

Full feminine Body type, characterized by full and boarder chest and hips. The Cello shape have narrow and highlighted waist, and the rectangle structure almost have no waist.

The goal is to create a structured and curved body, by clothes with clean lines and a flattering cut with stiff fabrics that give structure to the body.

What To Wear

upper part:

  • Shirts and dresses with a deep V neck, or wrap shape will flatter and compliment the bust area, especially when it comes to a Big breast.

  •  A-line maxi dresses, fitt to the waist and extends down, lengthen the body.

  • Long necklaces, adding horizontal lines to the body-lines, also lengthen your body.

  • Button-down shirts and fit tailored fabric, wear them with flat open collar, to not lose the neck.

  • Halter neck dresses with a deep V neckline

  • Dresses with bold Waistline, or empire shape (bold line below the chest)

  • A jacket made of thick fabric like leather, tailored jacket with a deep V neck and finish above the hips, that helps to give structure to the body. It is better a jacket with a single button or two in the center.

  • Good, supportive bra lift the breasts and create a difference between the chest area to the waist line.

Bottom:

  • Slim pants -fitted to the hips and extends knee down. preferable for hard fabric like Denim with little Lycra.

  • A-line skirt that gently expands, from hard fabric, will help give structure to the body

  • Knee-length skirt will help draw attention to the narrow  intersection of the knee

What Not To Wear

upper part:

  • Too much decorated T-shirts, especially in the chest area, they only add more weight and heaviness.

  • Liquid fabrics, which attach to the curves of the body and emphasize more the Excess.

  • T-shirts and dresses withs traight lines, hide the waist.

  • Closed shirts and dresses without cleavage.

  • Short sleeves that ending in the chest line - will increase the chest area to one big piece.

  • Boxy jacket

Bottom:

  • Pants with pockets on the sides, it just expands you more.

  • Pencil skirts or miniskirts

  • Leather pants or skinny.

  • Pants decorated in the hips area
